Today’s learning environment is more important than ever before, and dance is no exception! Whether your child or teen is dancing in-person or live online, the community they build and their connections fulfill important needs. Every child wants to feel like they belong and can accomplish great things—and dance helps bring this to life.
At Mercury Academy of Dance, we will continue to go the extra mile to create a safe environment in order to minimize risk and maximize joy! We’ve made changes to our class structure to ensure the safety of our staff and students.
Our dancers’ physical and mental well-being is our top priority, and we are committed to providing an experience that supports both. We can’t predict the future, but we can provide a safe outlet for activity and self-expression—a way for children to cope with their stresses and build their muscles.
Our dancers are already adjusting to many changes in their lives, from wearing masks to social distancing from others. We want to express to our students that these changes are encouraged so we may all continue to move forward in the safest way possible. We want them to know their efforts matter! This sense of teamwork among peers is just one example of how dance helps our kids make sense of our circumstances.
To ensure the safety of our students and instructors, we have implemented new operating procedures:
- 6ft. distancing of dancers
- Temperature checks at the door
- Drop-off only for all students 5+ yrs
- Closure of dressing room and communal water fountain
- No sign-in upon arrival (instructors will take attendance in class)
- Limited floor work
- Sanitization of barres and floor between every class
- Class levels will remain in the same studios throughout the evening to decrease cross-contamination
Also, our dancers are continuing to learn valuable lessons in how to express their emotions through movement. It can be complicated for a child to verbalize their feelings, yet through dance, they have the opportunity to say with their body what can be challenging to articulate otherwise. We dance from our hearts first, and we believe every child deserves the chance to express themselves in this way.
We hope that you’ll continue to see what a positive impact dance has on your child’s life throughout this year. At Allegro, healthy classrooms—both in-person and live online—equal happy kids. And we couldn’t be more proud to bring dance into our students’ lives during this important time.
